Don’t forget!! Today is the very last day to enter my celebration giveaway!! You have until midnight central time tonight!!! The winner will be announced tomorrow on Tuesday, July 26. If you won, you will receive an email and you have 48 hours to respond. If you fail to do so, a new winner will be chosen! I’m so pleased with the response!!! Thank you all for participating!!
I hope you all have had a good weekend!! I wanted to share one of my most favorite projects with you today!! I love cakes!! Especially chocolate on chocolate!! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! And I also really enjoy decorating cakes as well. But that can be quite messy and very involved (not sure if that’s the right word to use there or not but that’s what popped into my mind). The GREAT thing about the cake you are about to see is that it’s neither messy nor too complicated!! You won’t even have to wash a dish!!
Here’s what you need: diapers and cake pans of various sizes. I used Target’s Up and Up brand size 2.
Start by placing your diapers in the cake pan, layering them.

It’s very simple. Just go around and around filling up the pan.

Once you get to the middle, roll up the diapers like a log and fill in the center. Sometimes if I’m short on diapers I fill the center with balled up plastic grocery bags. I used a 92 pack of diapers and had plenty for one 4 layer and one 2 layer cake…with some leftover.
Tie the cake layer around the center using twine, ribbon, string etc. You are going to cut this off later so it doesn’t matter what it looks like. Once tied, pop it out of the pan. R and T helped me make quick work of the cake layers. They were able to do this for me with little to no assistance!!
Once you have all of your layers made, you can start to decorate any way that you choose. This time I left the twine and tied small pieces of ribbon around the layer. I quickly realized that this was taking me F.O.R.E.V.E.R.!! I had intended to do every layer this way but changed my mind! Hey, that’s what a girl does right?? ;) So I only went half way around here.
I placed a length of wide ribbon around the center with hot glue. Once it was in place I put my scissors underneath the ribbon and cut the twine and pulled it out.

The crinkle paper adds just enough umph! between the layers. This mom-to-be is going with an owl them for her nursery. The OoOooOoo ribbon was perfect!! And the brown paper reminded me of a nest.

This “m” was .39 at Michaels. I painted it a couple of times before I settled on this chocolate brown and stuck it in place with hot glue.

These cakes were the perfect center piece for this sweet baby shower!! Beautiful and inexpensive! The diapers were $14.99. I had all the ribbon and the crinkle paper already. But if you are buying everything from scratch you can certainly do it for $20 or less. Plus!! Mom gets to take them home as a gift and use the diapers when the little one arrives.
Easy Peesy!! I can’t wait to announce the winner tomorrow!! I hope it’s you!!
Hugs!!

That is super cute! I just finished one I made for my sisters shower. It was made doing the same method. Check it out – http://www.fallwith.us/
I just love how it came out. And it was so much easier to do this method versus the rolled diaper method.
LOVE it!! It turned out GREAT!!
