I LOVE having a dishwasher!!! I don’t totally mind washing dishes by hand but with as many people who live in this house and with as many meals we cook and eat a dishwasher helps out a bunch!! The only thing about our dishwasher is ……..it’s ugly!! Right???
Replacement at this point isn’t an option. It works great but as I said….it’s ugly.
So….what could I do? Instead of painting it or going through some sort of expensive re-do I decided to cover the front with chalkboard contact paper. It wasn’t difficult AT ALL!! I just measured and cut. Ruthie supplied me with an extra set of hands to help hold and pull. To get it “air bubble free” I used a kitchen scraper and pressed down from top to bottom working with small sections at a time.
MUCH MUCH better!! And the great thing is, it was CHEAP!!! I found some self-adhesive chalkboard paper at Michael’s for $4.99 a roll. The Con-Tact brand actually makes a chalkboard contact paper. You can find that here. I haven’t seen any in our local stores. It’s inexpensive as well. This was the perfect solution for us!! The children love it too!!!
While I was at it with the chalkboard paper, I found some other fun uses for it.
As you know, our children take a lot of prescription drugs. I ALWAYS forget how much of what they get and when. So on the inside of the medicine cabinet door I made this fun little Rx memo board. It works like a charm!! (realized later that I had left some meds off of this list…..precisely why I need it!!)
I found these GREAT Chalk markers at Hobby Lobby. With a 40% off coupon they were $6. Plus the CUTE Baroque Duck Tape I found at Target for $3.99. It makes the perfect frame!!
Then I put a little “label” on this CUTE pitcher. The markers are wet erase so your guests will never have to ask, “What’s this?”

I still have a little bit of chalkboard paper left. Can’t wait to find some fun uses for that. PLUS I have a can of chalkboard spray paint just waiting to be turned into something cool!! I don’t know what it is about chalkboards but I LOVE them. Maybe it’s the teacher in me?? Who knows. After working with the chalkboard, Lilly decided she’d take a load off and read the paper……the Toys-R-Us ad.
