Well, it’s Friday and once again, we are recovering from a very busy week!!! We have so many people in our lives and I LOVE spending time with them all!! Relationships truly are a special gift from God. Here’s a re-cap of our week. Get ready for lots of pictures!!
Monday, as you all know, was the 4th of July!! Happy Independence Day!! We decided to grill and chill here at home and it was wonderful!!I am actually not a fan of ribs but these were delicious to me!! I even ate the leftovers!!
While daddy was outside working on the ribs, I was inside working on some sweet stuff!!I heart melted chocolate BIG TIME!!!! It leaves me speechless. But these strawberries made me say YUM!!! They were OH SO good!!
We tried to wait until it got really dark to do sparklers and such but the children just couldn’t wait. So we did sparklers and the little poppin’ things….I so don’t know the actual name of those things but it’s the little do-dads that you throw on the ground and they pop…..we did all of that until their little hearts were content. Below is a picture of Lilly workin’ a sparkler with her daddy. We ended the night standing in the front yard watching the fireworks show from the Dothan Country Club. Which was a FABULOUS show by the way!!
After Monday, we had to get ready for a PARTY!!! Tobin turned SIX on Wednesday!! That’s SO hard to believe!! Time just keeps going faster and faster!
I told you I’d share how I made Tobin’s Dino Invitations so here goes. I actually made these same invitations for his 4th birthday. He recently found one that I had saved and said he wanted the same invitations and the same cake this year. Yay for being easy to please!! When he was 4 and wanted a dinosaur party I started, like I always do, with on-line research. I found some VERY cute invitations HERE. But as you can see, they are $30 for 10 (not including shipping). And I’m just too frugal for that. So I got out a blank sheet of paper and free handed my own little dino. Once I drew an outline I colored him with crayons. I’ve also used colored pencils as well as water color paints. And HERE is what I came up with. I then scanned this into my computer. When I had a PC I did this in Publisher. But now that I have a MAC I use Pages for the most part. I just inserted this into my document and added a text box. After that I printed and cut them out. You can print them on a glossy photo paper for a cool look as well. But I just used regular card stock. I had all of this on hand plus I hand delivered them and they didn’t cost me a cent!!
Once the invitations were taken care of, we had a cake to bake!! And of course we stuck with the dino theme!!
Betty Crocker’s Gluten Free Devil’s Food cake (made using 4 oz of applesauce in place of the eggs)You can find a “How-To” video and templates for this cake HERE
And once the cake was settled, we HAD to have something to drink!! You can find the recipe for this HERE. The children LOVED it!!
His birthday was Wednesday, as I said, and Wednesday is also the night that we have our Redeemer small group over for Bible Study (we are currently going through Francis Chan’s Crazy Love). We have LOTS of children in our group and these are the ones he wanted to invite to his party so we killed 2 birds with one stone that night. We normally bring finger foods and eat and chill before we get started with discussion. Tobin requested tacos so we made it a Dino Fiesta!! We’ve got some connections with The Mexican Connection and they HOOKED US UP!! Plus I made my favorite taco time recipe. We started with the cake! Here’s the birthday boy recovering from being sung to. We all fixed our plates and the kids set up in the school room. My husband, who is the resident tech guru, set up a movie with a projector shooting onto the wall (I took down my beloved map of the U.S. lol). Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs was the featured film.I know, I know….
They LOVED it!!After all the fun, Ruthie and Tobin pretended to be paleontologists on a dig.And then…..Thursday night we had several pastors (from the community) and their wives and most of their children over for some food and fun. We had a BLAST!!! It’s so funny to me to watch pastors and evangelists get down on the floor and play a game of Cranium!!! Even though I’m married to a pastor, I still mentally picture all pastors in a suit and tie with a very serious disposition who are just well rounded “fuddy-duds”….no offense. But that was not the case last night!! We really had a lot of fun and enjoyed the gift of laughter immensely!! They may be well educated, but one of them failed at spelling the word psychedelic (and yes, I just had to use spell check myself!!) and another couldn’t spell the word “oxygen” backwards!! HOWEVER, one succeeded GREATLY at imitating Marilyn Monroe in a charade type challenge. And sense I played on the girls team I’m not about to let you know what mistakes we made!! But I will say that some of us are very good at drawing a pair of panties!! We played boys against girls, as we always do, and as usual, they came from behind and won. Maybe next time girls!!
We are spending the weekend taking it easy and reflecting on all of the blessings that God has freely given us. I’m so thankful for the friends and family that surround us in our right here, right now. We love you all!! Happy Friday!
