I’ve seen this article circling around Facebook recently. To me it’s a really good “slap in the face” reminder of why I do what I do. I too get tired of the idle comments from passers by about my “hands being full”. Isn’t it a shame that I literally am told that every time I go out of this house with my 3 children who are 7, 6, and 2? For the most part, I don’t think people are intending to be mean or discouraging but they sure aren’t trying to be helpful. I make it my mission to be the possibly only encouraging word to new parents. I refuse to say, “you’d better sleep now!!” or “you won’t be able to do that once that little one arrives” I truly believe that these are idle words spoken by people who just don’t know what else to say. Unfortunately they have trouble embracing a good moment of silence.
Jesus says, “But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgement. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matt. 12:36-37
“My mouth will speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart will be understanding.” Psalm 49:3
Let us as mothers, be an encouragement to other mothers, new mothers, and all of those who ever come in contact with children. Because the hand that rocks the cradle really does have the power to change the world. God forbid that we relinquish that power to the culture that surrounds and allow it to change us.
